Dr. Amy Kenny, Director

Dr. Amy Kenny (she/her) is a disabled scholar-practitioner, writer, and advocate, and serves as the inaugural director of the Disability Cultural Center. Her work on disability has been featured in Teen Vogue, Huff Post, The Mighty, Sojourners, and Shondaland. Kenny’s award-winning book, My Body is Not A Prayer Request, mixes humor, personal narrative, and theology to invite faith communities to rethink their ableism and learn from the embodied wisdom of disabled people. 

In addition to her academic work, Kenny has served on the Mayor’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force and as a facilitator for Freedom Road Institute for Leadership and Justice. While co-leading a mutual aid group supporting neighbors experiencing homelessness for several years, she co-founded Jubilee Homes OC, a permanent supportive housing initiative in her community. 

Originally from Brisbane, Australia, she is at home in the water, where she’d always rather be.

Chloe Smith, Student Assistant

Chloe (she/her) is a senior in the Berkley School of Nursing. This is her third year working with the DCC as a student academic assistant. She is particularly passionate about bridging the gap between healthcare and disability. Chloe hopes to create a welcoming space for disability culture by way of laughter and joy.

Ilyes Rekhis, Student Assistant

Ilyes is a junior in the Georgetown University Qatar, currently spending his study abroad semester at the Washington, D.C. main campus. He is majoring in International Economics with a minor in Mathematics and is mostly interested in global markets and analysis.

Outside the DCC, Ilyes enjoys traveling, playing music, and engaging in community work through teaching and tutoring.

Marcia Salas Vilches, Student Assistant

Marcia (she/her) is a senior in the McDonough School of Business (MSB) majoring in Finance and Operations Analytics. She is actively looking to expand DCC’s presence on campus and assist with future programming/goals.

Outside of the Disability Cultural Center, Marcia is part of Georgetown University Alumni & Student Federal Credit Union (GUASFCU), Georgetown Global Consulting Club (GGC), and the Latin American Student Association (LASA).

Moises Amador Robles, Student Assistant

Moises (he/him) is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Government with a minor in Spanish. In the future, he hopes to work in political communications using language and accessibility as effective tools. This is his second year working at the DCC, where he helps craft and edit the biweekly newsletter. In addition to the newsletter, Moises hopes to continue educating the Georgetown community about Disability Culture through events and collaborations with various organizations on and off campus.

Natalie Gustin, Student Assistant

Natalie (she/her) is a senior in the School of Foreign Service, studying Culture & Politics with a concentration in Disability in Revolutionary Movements, with minors in Disability Studies and Arabic. She looks forward to forging a strong connection between education and community and integrating the principles of disability justice into all spaces on campus.

Natalie calls Anne Arundel County, Maryland home and is a transfer from the University of Iowa. Outside of the DCC, Natalie volunteers at Georgetown Ministry Center, works in the Disability Studies Program, and is a member of Georgetown Mosaic.

Seven Brimmer, Student Assistant

Seven (he/him) is a sophomore in the College of Arts & Sciences, undeclared with an interest in studying Environmental Biology. He works in the Disability Cultural Center, a part of the Office of Student Equity and Inclusion. He helps create image descriptions for graphics and flyers for events. His goal for his first year being a part of the DCC is being a positive, social, and welcoming figure working at the front desk.

Yaritza Filpo Luna, Student Assistant

Yaritza (she/her) is a junior in the McDonough School of Business majoring in Finance and Accounting. This is her first year working with the DCC as a student administrative assistant and she is super grateful to have been given the opportunity to join the community and absorb as much knowledge as possible.
